The Jets need to their best hockey of theseason as they can't afford more than 4 more losses or they will be out of the playoff picture.

Played hard but the Jets crappy PK was no match for the Oilers lethal PP, Harkins really screwed up on the game winning goal.

If there's any chance of them getting into the playoffs they're gonna have to beat the Flames, Preds, Coyotes, Canucks in regulation time and have a bit of luck on their side, it's gonna be tough especially with so many of the teams they're battling with for the wildcard playoff spots having games in hand on the Jets.

The Edmonton game was my personal TSN turning point. Jets lost. They will not make the playoffs. Very tough season of injuries, bad breaks, Buff, etc. Tough to see as a fan, but the reality is what it is. Next year the Jets will be a lot better, more mature and have a lot of cap to work with.

Not writing the season off, but certainly things aren't rosy. But if we can, say, win three of our next four, or whatever, things could change for the better.

Still, looking ahead as you say, the Jets should be better, better alone with the Byfuglien situation finalized assuming it is it.

Youngsters like Harkins, Ehlers, Roslovic, Appleton, Connor, Laine, Gustafsson, Pionk, Poolman, Heinola, Samberg (?), Copp and Niku will be a year older, stronger and more experienced.

And of course we should have a pretty decent draft choice this year.

Of course, some of these players may/need to be sacrificed for a #2C or a #1 D-man. Which ones is TBD!

We will have more cap space as you say, but if our RFA's are re-signed plus a back-up goalie, not as much space as most think - probably around $5 million (depending on if the cap goes up and by how much). Of course if Little is finished, that would go up to around $10 million, which is a nice chunk of change.

Yes we "may" miss the playoffs this year, but still there is hope on the horizon!

I will believe the Jets will be better next year once the GM actually make moves to improve this team.
Instead the likely scenario is that Little comes back next year and Maurice pairs him with Laine cause 3rd year the charm.
They keep Lowry and Perreault for the 3rd line, meaning no real development for any of the 2015 line.
On defense, the worst case is Buff decides he wants back and the Jets keep him because no team wants to take a 7.6 million chance on him and they wont pay him to go away and help another team, and there goes any cap space the Jets had.
The best case is his cap comes off the books and the Jets spend it on a Hamonic or Demelo plus a LD that costs 3+ million.
In goal they give Comrie the back-up job cause they can send Berdin down to the minors for another year.
That hardly looks like a team that will be a contender next year, but who knows maybe Chevy will surprise me by training camp in September.

You’re breaking 3 important rules of player acquisition at once:
1: never trade down for a specific position, always aim to improve (See Rask for Nino)
2: never trade at perceived low value (see every Tallon move ever; Rask for Nino)
3: don’t trade your best skater before you know what you have (see Ondrej Kase, Marchessault, and so many others)

Ehlers is 12th in the league in 5v5 scoring. The only person who doesn't know what he is would be Maurice.

2 things:

1. The Jets play Calg twice and Preds once to close out the season. Those are the most important and deciding games. If peg can win both Calg games, they are pretty well even combatants with their remaining games. Preds got whooped tonight, and could easily play their way out of contention on their own accord.

2. I will be betting the family farm on Jets tomorrow vs Buffalo. It could put them into a wildcard spot (tho they have less games remaining), and I am confident that Helle will finally stop his first 5 shots on goal (pretty sure his his S/O vs Washington was his only game in the past 20 starts where he accomplished the first 5 shots). Regardless, I will be there watching what will be another gutless buffalo performance. Go Jets!

Still no.

Put him with some combination of Scheifele, Laine, Wheeler, and Copp. You’ll be fine.

Copp has excelled since being without Lowry. Lowry is great at faceoff's/hitting/pk, but has no place in offensive production. He is a 8 minute guy, playing 16 minutes a night when healthy. Thats the problem. But Ras is another good option at C

Ehlers drives me bonkers. They guy has all the tools to be a 110 point player. His skill set is elite, but his choices keep him in the 60 point range. Very frustrating. If he gets his head on straight, this is the best top 6 forward group in the league. I love this team going forward, but they can certainly do some damage right now if they get healthy and work their butts off.

I have a feeling this comment exists not to sing Copp’s praises, but to quickly transition to another Lowry attack

Such a weird series of choices by Ehlers, limiting his ice time, saying no to the powerplay, and being centred by Cody Eakin like that

Comment was made about Ehlers’ choices holding him back from being a ppg player, so I listed all the things actually holding him back

It doesn’t help him that Maurice keeps his minutes down to a third line level

You are correct. Lowry is terrible in any offensive situation. Great PK guy, but its painful to watch him snuff out any opportunities for offense. Copp has performed much better since being free'd. I see some comments about Ehlers at centre. Has he ever played down the middle? If he is decent in the faceoff circle it would certainly be something worth considering. The guy's skating and vision are elite level.
